The Korean-inspired lifestyle and gifting company plans to use the capital to expand its offline store network, enter quick commerce, and strengthen its supply chain and private-label portfolio.

Founded in 2023 by Gaurav Karmani and Mohit Khurana, Uni Seoul runs an offline-first retail model selling Korean design-inspired products — plush toys, home décor, stationery, bags, beauty items, and gifts — priced between ₹99 and ₹2,999. It currently operates 15 stores across six Indian cities including Bengaluru, Pune, Mumbai, and Hyderabad.

Why now? The fundraise rides a wave of K-culture popularity in India. K-pop, K-dramas, and K-beauty have fuelled consumer demand for Korean-inspired products across beauty, food, fashion, and gaming. India's K-beauty market alone is projected to hit $1.5B by 2030, growing at a CAGR of 25.9%.

Uni Seoul wants to move fast while the cultural tailwind is strong. It aims to scale from 15 stores to over 50 in the near term and build 500 retail touchpoints over the next five years through a mix of company-owned and franchise-led formats.

The startup is also betting on quick commerce platforms like Blinkit, Zepto, and Swiggy Instamart, targeting impulse purchases and gifting — categories that thrive on rapid delivery.

What could go wrong? Scaling from 15 to 500 stores is ambitious for a two-year-old company. Maintaining consistent product experience across company-owned and franchise outlets — while simultaneously launching on quick commerce — will stretch operational resources. Cultural trends can also be fickle; if K-culture fades in India, Uni Seoul's core appeal narrows.

The signal: Sauce.vc has built a portfolio around consumer brands in India, and its co-lead here suggests conviction that culture-driven retail niches can scale beyond novelty status. Dealroom flags Uni Seoul — barely two years old — as a "breakout" stage company, an unusually rapid trajectory for an offline-first retailer and a sign that investor appetite for physical-format D2C plays in India remains strong despite the sector's capital intensity.
