Vinyl Equity raises $20M Series A led by Jump Capital

What's the deal? Vinyl Equity, a fintech infrastructure company and SEC-registered transfer agent, has raised $20M in a Series A led by Jump CapitalDealroom has a profile for this one. The Chicago-based company builds modern systems for capital markets and corporate transactions, replacing legacy workflows with real-time recordkeeping, equity operations, paying agency, and transaction processing for both private and public companies.

Why now? Legacy infrastructure in capital markets is showing its age. As ownership models evolve and companies go public, disconnected systems and manual processes create mounting operational risk for issuers. Vinyl says the workarounds that once held things together no longer scale.

"The systems they use to interact with the capital markets were built for a different era," said Rob Schoder, chief executive officer and co-founder of Vinyl Equity.

The company already has a marquee proof point: it served as transfer agent for Neptune Insurance Holdings Inc. following its listing on the New York Stock Exchange, handling shareholder onboarding, recordkeeping, and transaction processing.

What could go wrong? Vinyl is entering a market dominated by entrenched incumbents — firms like ComputershareDealroom has a profile for this one. Convincing public companies to swap out core financial infrastructure carries high switching costs and requires significant trust.

Operating as a regulated transfer agent also means navigating SEC oversight, which adds compliance complexity as the platform scales.

The signal: Vinyl Equity is still at the early growth stage, but it has assembled a notably heavyweight investor roster for a company tackling transfer agency — Index Ventures and Spark Capital from the seed days, now joined by Jump Capital and MUFG Innovation Partners. The participation of MUFG's venture arm underscores that the incumbents' own banking partners see legacy capital markets plumbing as ripe for replacement, lending strategic credibility that pure VC backing alone cannot provide.
