MOIL forms manganese mining JV with MPSMCL

What's the deal? State-owned MOILDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → Limited, India's largest manganese ore producer, has incorporated a joint venture company called MOIL MPSMCL Mining Limited with Madhya Pradesh State Mining Corporation Limited (MPSMCL). MOIL holds a 51% stake, making the new entity its subsidiary, while MPSMCL owns the remaining 49%.

The JV was incorporated on June 4, 2026, and disclosed to the NSE and BSE on June 6. It has issued 102,000 equity shares at a face value of ₹10 each.

The new company will focus on manganese ore mining in the mineral-rich regions of Madhya Pradesh. Manganese is a critical raw material for steel manufacturing and other industrial uses.

Why now? The venture aligns with MOIL's long-term strategy to expand its mining footprint and secure additional mineral resources as India's industrial and infrastructure demands grow. It has already received approvals from the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM) and the Ministry of Steel, clearing the path for operations.

The move also reflects a broader push by Indian public sector enterprises to partner with state mining corporations to boost domestic mineral production.

What could go wrong? Joint ventures between central and state government entities can face coordination challenges, bureaucratic delays, and differing priorities. Manganese mining also carries environmental and regulatory risks that could slow development timelines.

The signal: India's push to secure domestic mineral supply chains is accelerating through public sector partnerships, with this JV representing a replicable model for critical resource development. As the country's steel output continues to climb, tying MOIL's manganese expertise to state-level mining assets could help reduce reliance on imports and shorten the path from exploration to production in under-tapped regions like Madhya Pradesh.
