Safestate chairman ups stake to 24.8% with 1.2M share purchase

What's the deal? Mattias Kaneteg, chairman of Safestate Group AB, acquired roughly 1.2 million additional shares in the European cybersecurity platform company through an off-market transaction on May 11. He bought the shares from Secify Group AB via a holding company.

After the deal, Kaneteg controls nearly 10 million shares — about 24.8% of all outstanding shares in Safestate Group.

"We've built SafeState into a focused channel-first cybersecurity platform with a clear path to scale across Europe," Kaneteg said. "Increasing my shareholding reflects my conviction in the strategy and in the team executing it."

Why now? Safestate positions itself as a high-volume, low-touch cybersecurity provider for small and mid-sized businesses and consumers across Europe. It delivers protection through resellers, telecom, and hosting partners — and pursues an active M&A strategy to expand its portfolio of cybersecurity solutions and insurance services.

The chairman's buy signals confidence in the company's current trajectory as it tries to scale that partner-driven model continent-wide.

What could go wrong? Insider purchases often signal bullishness, but they don't guarantee returns. Safestate operates in a crowded European cybersecurity market where larger, better-funded players compete aggressively for the same SMB customers. Scaling a channel-first model across multiple European markets brings regulatory, cultural, and logistical complexity.

A nearly 25% stake by the chairman also concentrates ownership, which can cut both ways for minority shareholders.

The signal: European cybersecurity for SMBs remains a hot segment as smaller businesses face mounting threats but lack dedicated security teams. Platform plays that bundle protection with insurance and distribute through existing channels — telecom providers, hosting companies — are betting that scale economics can make serving this underserved market profitable. Kaneteg is putting his own money behind that thesis.
