The platform provides continuous, personalised support for fear, anxiety, and uncertainty during pregnancy — filling the gap between clinical appointments. It is not a medical tool or a surface-level tracker, but a responsive digital companion.

Omaia was co-founded by chief executive officer Nina Larsen, whose daughter died at birth, and Linnéa Belding, who experienced perinatal anxiety and depression firsthand.

Why now? One in five women experience mental health challenges during pregnancy or postpartum, yet the day-to-day emotional experience remains largely invisible to clinical care systems. Despite growing awareness of maternal mental health, few products address the psychological journey in a continuous, behaviour-driven way.

"Omaia exists because of a failure in the system that I experienced firsthand — resulting in me losing my daughter during birth," Larsen said. "What I went through wasn't captured in clinical care, and it's still not reflected in what gets built or funded."

What could go wrong? Omaia operates in a sensitive space between wellness and healthcare. Positioning as a non-clinical tool helps avoid regulatory hurdles but could limit its perceived credibility among providers and insurers. Monetisation in the femtech wellness category has also proven tricky for startups that lack a clear clinical or employer-benefits hook.

The signal: Omaia's use of AI and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) techniques positions it beyond the typical wellness companion, potentially giving it a stronger clinical credibility hook than pure tracking apps. The oversubscribed round — albeit undisclosed in size — suggests angel investors see an opening in perinatal mental health that remains underserved by both traditional healthcare systems and the current crop of femtech products.
