Virtual Browser raises €6M to bring web isolation tech across Europe

What's the deal? Virtual Browser, a French cybersecurity startup specialising in web isolation, has raised €6M in a funding round led by four investors: Go Capital, BNP Paribas Développement, Auriga Cyber Ventures, and BPI France. The company plans to use the capital to strengthen its R&D and expand across Europe.

Virtual Browser's product is a zero-trust, server-side solution built on remote browser isolation (RBI) technology. It secures web browsing from any browser by streaming only pixels back to the user's screen — keeping the actual browsing session contained on a remote server.

Why now? The company recently unveiled an indirect distribution strategy, signalling a shift toward scaling through channel partners rather than direct sales alone. Chief executive Edouard de Rémur — a co-founder of French cloud firm Oodrive — acknowledged the round "wasn't simple" and "took time," but ultimately exceeded its initial target.

What could go wrong? Browser isolation remains a niche segment within cybersecurity, competing for budget against better-known endpoint and network security tools. Expanding across Europe means navigating varied regulatory environments and entrenched incumbents. The relatively modest round size could also limit how fast Virtual Browser can scale against well-funded rivals.

The signal: The investment reflects sustained appetite for European cybersecurity startups, particularly those offering zero-trust architectures. As organisations grapple with browser-based threats — phishing, drive-by downloads, malicious scripts — RBI is gaining traction as a preventive layer rather than a reactive one. Backing from BPI France, the state-owned investment bank, underscores the French government's push to nurture a sovereign cybersecurity ecosystem.
