Beepay raises R$2M seed to build autonomous checkout tech in Brazil

What's the deal? BeepayDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a Brazilian retailtech-fintech hybrid, has closed a R$2M (roughly $350,000) seed round led by Comunitá, the corporate venture capital arm of SicrediDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a cooperative bank based in southern Brazil. ACATE Invest and accelerator Ventiur contributed the remaining half, with Comunitá putting in R$1M.

The startup has developed proprietary autonomous checkout technology that lets shoppers scan products on their phones or at kiosks — skipping human cashiers entirely. It targets physical stores, condo mini-markets, hotels, and corporate settings.

Why now? Beepay said the funding arrives at a moment of traction for the company. It plans to use the capital to refine its core product and invest in AI-driven personalisation, using in-store data to create real-time customer connections.

Founder and chief executive officer Renata Costa said 44% of the raise will go exclusively towards technology and product development. "We're building the operating system for the autonomous retail of the future," she said, adding that strategic partners like Comunitá and Ventiur provide the "smart money" needed to scale.

What could go wrong? Autonomous checkout remains a tough sell beyond niche use cases. Even AmazonDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → scaled back its Just Walk Out technology in 2024, citing complexity and cost. Beepay will need to prove its solution works reliably across diverse retail formats — from hotels to neighbourhood shops — while keeping implementation costs low enough for small merchants.

A R$2M seed round is modest by any standard, which limits runway. The startup will likely need to show quick results to attract follow-on funding in a Brazilian venture market that has tightened considerably.

The signal: Sicredi, classified by Dealroom as a mature cooperative financial institution, deploying capital through its CVC arm into an early-growth retailtech startup underscores a growing pattern of established Latin American financial players seeking innovation exposure beyond their core business. For Beepay, the strategic backing matters more than the cheque size — proving autonomous checkout in Brazil's fragmented, cash-heavy physical retail landscape could open a far larger follow-on conversation.
