Westlake Robotics closes pre-A+ round to fund its robotics AI model

What's the deal? Westlake Robotics, a Chinese robotics startup, announced on May 6 that it has closed a pre-A+ funding round. Existing investor Xiaomiao LangchengDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → led the round, with new investors Xingzheng Capital and Beiyu Capital joining.

The funds will go toward developing the company's unified full-body AI foundation model for robotics.

Why now? China's robotics sector is in the midst of a funding boom as companies race to build foundation models that can control humanoid and general-purpose robots. Westlake Robotics is positioning itself at the intersection of two hot areas — embodied AI and large models — that are drawing heavy investor interest.

The signal: Lead investor Xiaomiao Langcheng is classified as a corporate investor, and its decision to double down on Westlake Robotics suggests strategic rather than purely financial conviction in the unified full-body AI model approach. With corporate backers leading early rounds, the company may be positioning for faster commercialisation ties — a pattern increasingly common in China's robotics sector as the race to bring embodied AI from the lab to the factory floor intensifies.
