TrollWall AI raises €800K seed to scale AI-powered content moderation
What's the deal? Slovakian startup TrollWall AI has raised an €800K seed round to scale its automated content moderation platform. Slovenská Sporiteľňa's Seed Starter led the round, joined by Slovak Investment Holding (SIH) and angel investor Miroslav Fedor of HERNWOOD. The company combines localised AI models with human experts to build what it calls bias-controlled moderation systems.
Why now? Co-founder and chief executive officer Tomáš Halász came up with the idea in 2022 while managing social media for the vice president of the European Parliament and co-founding KtoPomozeUkrajine, an initiative helping Ukrainians fleeing the war. Handling floods of hateful comments manually was, as he put it, "inefficient, exhausting" — and that frustration became the founding spark.
The timing also reflects a broader shift: as online platforms face mounting regulatory pressure in the EU and beyond, demand for moderation tools that can handle local languages and cultural context is growing fast.
What could go wrong? Content moderation is a notoriously hard problem. Localised AI models need continuous training to keep up with evolving slang, sarcasm, and coded language — and even small errors can trigger backlash from both free-speech advocates and safety campaigners. Competing against well-funded incumbents and big tech's in-house tools is another challenge for a startup at this stage.
The signal: TrollWall AI's ambition to expand toward AI agent infrastructure for global community management platforms signals a growing market for specialised, human-centred moderation tech. As governments tighten rules around online safety, startups that can offer nuanced, context-aware solutions — especially for smaller languages and markets — may carve out defensible niches that big platforms can't easily serve on their own.
