Heidelberg Materials takes minority stake in Texas concrete maker AmeriTex

What's the deal? Heidelberg Materials North America has agreed to acquire a minority stake in AmeriTex Pipe & Products, a leading maker of reinforced concrete pipe, box culverts, and precast concrete products in Texas. The deal includes a long-term material supply agreement between the two companies.

AmeriTex operates one of the largest reinforced concrete pipe manufacturing networks in Texas, with facilities in the San Antonio/Austin area, the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, and Houston.

"This strategic investment in AmeriTex reflects the latest step in optimizing our portfolio to further strengthen our business in key growth markets such as Texas," said Chris Ward, president and chief executive officer of Heidelberg Materials North America.

Why now? Texas is one of the fastest-growing US states, and demand for infrastructure materials — concrete pipe, culverts, precast products — tracks closely with population growth and construction activity. Heidelberg Materials said AmeriTex's facilities align with its existing regional footprint in the Southwest.

The investment follows Heidelberg Materials North America's acquisition of BURNCO's Edmonton assets, completed in April 2026, signalling an active period of portfolio expansion.

What could go wrong? Minority stakes can limit strategic control. If the two companies' growth priorities diverge, the partnership could become harder to manage. Texas construction markets, while strong, are also cyclical and sensitive to interest rate shifts and public infrastructure spending.

The signal: Large building materials companies are doubling down on regional consolidation, locking in supply agreements and manufacturing capacity in high-growth US markets rather than building from scratch. For Heidelberg Materials — one of the world's largest integrated building materials manufacturers, headquartered globally but with North American operations based in Irving, Texas — this deal is about positioning for sustained infrastructure demand in the US South.
