Mahindra Finance raises ₹500 crore via non-convertible debentures

What's the deal? Mahindra & Mahindra Financial Services has allotted ₹500 crore (roughly $60M) worth of non-convertible debentures (NCDs) at a coupon rate of 7.71%. The debt instrument allows the company to raise capital from investors without offering equity conversion rights.

Why now? Non-banking financial companies in India have been tapping debt markets to shore up liquidity and fund loan book growth. NCDs offer a cost-effective way to raise medium-term capital, particularly as credit demand in rural and semi-urban India — Mahindra Finance's core market — remains strong.

The signal: The issuance reflects steady investor appetite for high-grade Indian corporate debt. For Mahindra Finance, it signals confidence in its ability to service obligations while expanding lending operations in a competitive market.
