Two Dutch 3D printing firms merge as Atum Systems raises €1M
What's the deal? Dutch startup AMSYSTEMS, a TNO spin-off, and 3D printer developer Atum3D have merged to form Atum Systems. The newly combined company raised €1 million to advance industrial plastic 3D printing. AMSYSTEMS brings its Multi-Laser Patterning (MLP) technology — modules that make 3D printers significantly faster and more efficient — while Atum3D contributes its established printer development expertise.
The merger was announced on May 21, 2026.
Why now? Industrial 3D printing is shifting from prototyping to full-scale manufacturing, and speed remains the biggest bottleneck. AMSYSTEMS' MLP modules address that constraint directly. Combining the two companies under one roof lets Atum Systems offer an integrated product — faster hardware paired with a proven printer platform — rather than selling components piecemeal.
The signal: Consolidation among niche European hardware startups is a recurring pattern as the additive manufacturing market matures. Rather than competing for the same industrial customers separately, small firms are pooling complementary technologies to build stronger propositions. The €1 million raise is modest, but it signals investor confidence that speed gains in plastic 3D printing can unlock real commercial demand.
