INDIKA developer Odd Meter raises $5M for its next game

What's the deal? Odd Meter, the indie studio behind the critically acclaimed narrative adventure INDIKA, has raised $5 million from GEM Capital and Autotelic Ventures. The funding will go toward developing the studio's next, still-unannounced project.

Creative director Dmitry Svetlow said the round gives the team "the runway to grow" and stay focused on building its next game. The studio hasn't disclosed the new project's genre, platforms, or release window.

Why now? INDIKA, released in 2024, became one of the most decorated narrative indie games of the 2024–2025 cycle. It earned top honours at the Japan Game Awards and Games for Change, plus nominations at The Game Awards, BAFTA Games Awards, and DICE Awards.

That wave of recognition gives Odd Meter rare leverage for an indie studio — critical credibility and global visibility to attract investor interest.

What could go wrong? Sophomore projects carry high expectations. INDIKA stood out for its unconventional themes and distinctive visual style — qualities that are hard to replicate or scale without diluting what made the original special.

Scaling production while preserving creative independence is a familiar tension in indie games. Svetlow acknowledged as much, saying the team is "applying everything we learned from INDIKA" while "scaling production to a new level."

The signal: The deal reflects growing investor appetite for narrative-driven indie studios that can punch above their weight at major awards. Roman Gurskiy, managing director at GEM Capital, said the firm sees "strong long-term potential" in studios that combine authored creative vision with global resonance.

For a market often dominated by live-service and free-to-play models, bets like this suggest there's still capital flowing toward premium single-player experiences — especially when a studio has already proved it can break through.
