La Prensa Etichette buys Scriba, eyes €70M revenue

What's the deal? La Prensa Etichette, a Lombardy-based label printer serving the consumer goods sector, has acquired 100% of Scriba, a Piacenza-based company with 40 years of experience in self-adhesive labels. The deal brings La Prensa's consolidated revenue close to €70M.

Scriba employs about 50 people, generates €6M in revenue, and exports to roughly ten countries. It operates seven printing lines, two converting lines, and three quality-control systems across a 5,500m² facility.

The acquisition was backed by Unigrains Italia and BNP Paribas BNL Equity Investments. It is La Prensa's third acquisition in under two years.

Why now? The deal follows La Prensa's purchases of Grafiche Lama in December 2024 (in-mould labels) and Casalini e Viscardi in October 2025 (rotogravure printing and flexible packaging). The group is executing a rapid buy-and-build strategy to cover the full range of labelling and packaging technologies.

"We felt this was the right moment to entrust Scriba to a structured industrial group," said Carlo Rigolli, Scriba's outgoing chief executive. "The deal guarantees continuity, development, and new growth opportunities."

What could go wrong? Integrating three acquisitions in quick succession carries execution risk. Merging production workflows, cultures, and client relationships across seven sites and nearly 300 employees is no small task — even when facilities sit fewer than 50 kilometres apart.

The European label market is also fragmented and competitive. Maintaining margins while scaling will require disciplined cost management and a clear commercial strategy across geographies.

The signal: The deal reflects a broader consolidation trend in European packaging and labelling, where mid-sized players are rolling up smaller specialists to build full-service platforms. Investor-backed groups like La Prensa are betting that breadth of technology — from flexographic to rotogravure, from self-adhesive labels to shrink sleeves — creates a moat that single-product competitors can't match.

With over 25,000m² of production space and a portfolio spanning nearly every label format, La Prensa is positioning itself as a one-stop shop for FMCG brands across Europe.
