CropSight combines VeraSys' locally built Brolga drone with sensors, AI analysis, and reporting tools that turn aerial field data into actionable weed management insights for farmers. The project is formally titled "CropSight & Sovereign Brolga UAS – Commercialisation and Scale."
The Brolga is an electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft that weighs under 10 kilograms, carries a 1.9-kilogram payload, and flies for up to 2.5 hours — designed for large-scale crop mapping and monitoring.
Why now? Invasive weeds and herbicide resistance cost Australian agriculture roughly $4.8 billion a year, according to VeraSys. Research published by Australia's Grains Research and Development Corporation last year pegged the annual toll on grain and cotton growers at $4.43 billion in losses and control costs.
