NFP acquires Metis Ireland to grow its private wealth business

What's the deal? NFP, a subsidiary of Aon plc (NYSE: AON), has acquired Metis Ireland, a financial planning and investment advisory firm based in Limerick. Carl Widger, Metis Ireland's managing director, will join NFP as head of wealth and financial planning for NFP in Ireland, reporting to Colm Power, NFP's managing director in the country.

Metis Ireland was founded in 2014 and is regulated by the Central Bank of Ireland. It provides tailored financial planning, investment solutions, and wealth structuring to private clients, executives, and business owners, with offices in Limerick and Dublin.

Why now? The deal is part of NFP's ongoing strategic push into the Irish market. It follows a string of acquisitions — including The HR Suite, Orca Financial Group, and HC Financial — as NFP builds out its wealth management and employee benefits capabilities across Ireland.

"This is a significant step for NFP, and we're delighted to welcome Carl and his team as we continue to build our Private Wealth division and financial planning expertise in Ireland," said Power.

The signal: The acquisition reflects a broader consolidation trend in wealth management and financial planning, particularly in mid-sized markets like Ireland. Larger players backed by global infrastructure — in this case, Aon — are snapping up boutique advisory firms to expand their reach and service offerings.

For Metis Ireland, joining NFP means access to greater scale and specialist resources. For NFP, it deepens a local presence built through referral-driven, relationship-heavy businesses — the kind that tend to retain clients through transitions.
