Finland's KUMEKO acquires Ecoports Finland to expand port operations

What's the deal? KUMEKO, a Finnish logistics group, signed a deal on May 21 to acquire 100% of Ecoports FinlandDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → Oy, a port operations company founded in 1994. Ecoports operates in the port of Eurajoki, handling bulk, loose, and project cargo. The acquisition price was not disclosed.

Ecoports reported revenue of €1.4M in 2025. Its employees will transfer to KUMEKO, and Ecoports' current management will stay on during a transition period. Operations will continue without interruption.

Why now? Traffic volumes at Eurajoki port have grown significantly in recent years. KUMEKO already runs port operations in Pori's Mäntyluoto harbour through its subsidiary Aava Shipping Oy, which has operated there since 2020. The acquisition gives KUMEKO a second port and a broader geographic footprint along Finland's western coast.

"Logistics is a stable and growing sector whose importance will only increase," said Niilo Peltomäki, chief executive of KUMEKO's port operations unit. He noted Eurajoki's "excellent geographic location" as a key factor.

What could go wrong? Integrating two port operations teams is never simple, even when the combined entity remains relatively small. KUMEKO will need to retain Ecoports' customer relationships while delivering the "more capable solutions" it has promised. The company also faces broader risks tied to export trade volumes and potential shifts in global shipping routes.

The signal: KUMEKO GroupDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, classified as an early-growth company rooted in wood sourcing and bioenergy, is using acquisitions to build out an adjacent logistics vertical — a diversification path that pairs well with its forestry supply chain. EcoPorts Finland, also at early growth stage, gives KUMEKO a second western-coast port at a time when Eurajoki traffic volumes are climbing, suggesting the buy-and-build thesis here is driven by tangible demand rather than speculation alone.
