ReferOn completes management buyout as Alex Bukin takes the CEO role
What's the deal? ReferOn, an iGaming affiliate management platform, has completed a management buyout. Former general manager Alex Bukin acquired the company and stepped into the chief executive officer role. Two other leaders were promoted alongside him: Vlad Bondarenko became chief product officer, and David Harris is now chief operations officer.
"This is an important moment for ReferOn and the beginning of a new chapter for the business," Bukin said. "The management buyout provides us with the long-term focus required to continually advance the platform."
Why now? The buyout follows a strong growth period. In its first year, ReferOn recorded 35.7 million clicks, 2.4 million registrations, 18,000 affiliates, and 136,000 active trackers. The platform has built a reputation for being scalable and flexible for both operators and affiliates.
What could go wrong? Management buyouts can strain resources, especially if the acquiring team needs to take on debt to finance the deal. Losing the backing of a previous parent company also means ReferOn must now fund its own growth independently — a challenge in a competitive iGaming market.
The signal: The iGaming affiliate space is maturing, and platforms that prove their value are increasingly seeking independence from larger corporate structures. ReferOn's buyout suggests confidence that a focused, founder-led approach can outperform life under a bigger umbrella. With the existing leadership team staying in place and new product features like dynamic reporting, sub-affiliation tools, and mobile optimisation in the pipeline, the company is betting that operational continuity plus strategic autonomy is a winning formula.
