Fitt Group secures €110M ESG-linked loan for international expansion

What's the deal? Fitt Group, an Italian B Corp specialising in fluid-transport solutions, has secured €110M in sustainability-linked financing from a pool of banks led by Crédit Agricole Italia and UniCredit. Roughly €60M of the total refinances existing debt.

The loan is partially backed by a guarantee from SACE, Italy's export credit agency, underscoring the deal's strategic importance to the country's industrial base.

Structured as a sustainability-linked loan under Loan Market Association guidelines, the facility ties pricing to the achievement of specific ESG targets. The funds will support Fitt's industrial growth plan, including M&A activity already under way and efforts to expand internationally and deepen technological integration across its supply chain.

Why now? Founded in 1969, Fitt Group has grown into a €330M-revenue business with 1,150 employees, 15 production sites across Europe and the US, and a presence in more than 100 countries. The company is at a stage where scaling further — particularly through acquisitions — requires significant capital, and locking in favourable ESG-linked terms now positions it to invest while sustainability credentials still carry a pricing advantage.

What could go wrong? Sustainability-linked loans hinge on borrowers meeting agreed ESG milestones. If Fitt falls short, the cost of its debt rises — a financial penalty that could coincide with the very operational challenges that caused the miss. Rapid international expansion and M&A integration also carry execution risk, especially across multiple geographies.

The signal: The deal reflects a broader trend of mid-cap European manufacturers using ESG-linked finance to fund growth at competitive rates. With SACE's backing, it also shows how state-level institutions are channelling support toward companies that combine industrial ambition with sustainability commitments — a model increasingly favoured across the EU.
