Ingersoll Rand acquires Italy's Fox to bolster metering and dosing portfolio
What's the deal? Ingersoll Rand, the US-listed industrial solutions provider, has acquired Milan-based Fox s.r.l. and its sister company XF s.r.l. The deal expands Ingersoll Rand's metering and dosing capabilities by adding Fox's hydropneumatic accumulators, pulsation dampeners, calibration pots, and related instrumentation. The acquisition was made at a high single-digit multiple of Fox's 2025 adjusted EBITDA.
Fox, a founder-owned company with more than 40 years of expertise, manufactures components that stabilise flow and pressure in dosing systems — protecting downstream equipment and improving performance. It will join Ingersoll Rand's Precision and Science Technologies segment.
"Fox brings highly complementary dampener and accumulator technologies that expand our capabilities to provide packaged dosing systems," said Vicente Reynal, chairman and chief executive officer of Ingersoll Rand.
Why now? Ingersoll Rand has been on a steady bolt-on acquisition spree, targeting founder-owned companies it can source on a proprietary basis. Fox fits that playbook: a niche Italian manufacturer whose products complement Ingersoll Rand's existing metering and dosing portfolio, enabling it to offer end-to-end solutions rather than individual components.
What could go wrong? Integration risk is the perennial concern with serial acquirers. Folding a small, founder-led Italian firm into a large US-listed conglomerate requires cultural and operational alignment. There's also the question of whether the combined product offering will translate into meaningful cross-selling revenue or simply add complexity.
The signal: The deal reflects a broader trend in industrials: large players snapping up specialist manufacturers to assemble complete system-level offerings. Customers increasingly want turnkey solutions, not piecemeal components. For Ingersoll Rand, each bolt-on acquisition is a bet that bundling technologies drives stickier customer relationships — and better margins over time.
