Labexchange acquires Laborgeräte-Süd to expand lab equipment servicing

What's the deal? Labexchange — Die Laborgerätebörse GmbH, a German company specialising in buying and selling new, tested, and refurbished laboratory equipment, has acquired Laborgeräte-Süd GmbH & Co. KG. The acquired company will be integrated into Labexchange Service GmbH, the group's service arm.

The deal strengthens Labexchange's presence in southern Germany and broadens its service capabilities, particularly in autoclave maintenance. Laborgeräte-Süd brings long-standing expertise in maintenance, calibration, and repair of lab equipment.

Why now? Labexchange, based in Burladingen and operating for over 35 years, has been steadily expanding beyond equipment trading into technical services, maintenance, and repair. The acquisition is a logical next step in that strategy, giving it a manufacturer-certified service network across central and southern Germany.

The combined entity will offer routine maintenance contracts and recurring inspections for centrifuges, safety workbenches, laminar flow units, fume hoods, and autoclaves — positioning it as a one-stop, manufacturer-independent service partner for lab operators.

What could go wrong? Integrating a smaller, regionally focused company into a larger group always carries execution risk. Laborgeräte-Süd's existing customers will need to see continuity in service quality and response times — the very things Labexchange says the deal will improve.

Competing against manufacturers' own service teams is also a challenge, even with manufacturer certifications in hand.

The signal: The deal reflects a broader trend in the lab equipment market: companies are shifting from purely transactional models toward lifecycle management. Selling or reselling gear is no longer enough — customers increasingly want a single partner that can supply, maintain, and repair their equipment over the long term.

For labs, universities, and pharma companies, consolidated service offerings mean fewer vendor relationships and faster response times. For companies like Labexchange, it means recurring revenue and deeper customer lock-in.
