CareCloud acquires compliance firm Empower to cross-sell to 45,000+ providers

What's the deal? CareCloud (Nasdaq: CCLD), an AI-powered healthcare technology and revenue cycle management company, has acquired Empower Healthcare & Compliance Partners, a full-service healthcare compliance and advisory firm. The transaction closed on May 22, 2026. Empower is now a CareCloud company.

Founded by Mitchell Brie, Empower provides audit defence, risk mitigation, regulatory readiness, and HIPAA compliance services to healthcare providers nationwide. Brie joins CareCloud as president of Empower to lead the combined compliance business.

Empower's capabilities span four areas: revenue integrity (including risk adjustment and HCC coding audits), mergers and acquisitions compliance due diligence, privacy and security (HIPAA/HITECH policy and breach response), and compliance and ethics programme development.

Why now? Healthcare providers face an increasingly demanding regulatory environment, and compliance has shifted from a back-office task to a board-level priority. Most practices lack in-house expertise to keep pace.

"Compliance is now a top priority for healthcare providers, and Empower lets us meet that need with trusted expertise delivered directly through our AI-powered platform," said Stephen Snyder, chief executive officer of CareCloud.

What could go wrong? Cross-selling compliance services to CareCloud's existing base of more than 45,000 providers sounds straightforward on paper, but execution risk is real. Integrating an advisory firm's human-driven services into a technology platform requires careful alignment of sales, delivery, and pricing — and providers may not see compliance consulting as a natural extension of their existing software relationship.

The deal's financial terms were not disclosed, making it difficult to assess whether CareCloud paid a reasonable price or how quickly Empower's revenue contribution could become material.

The signal: This acquisition reflects a broader trend of healthcare technology companies expanding beyond software into adjacent services — particularly compliance, which is becoming more complex as AI adoption accelerates across the sector. For CareCloud, it opens a recurring revenue stream that doesn't depend on winning new clients, but on deepening relationships with the ones it already has. Expect more healthtech platforms to bolt on compliance and regulatory capabilities as the space matures.
