Securitas Healthcare acquires ZulaFly to boost cloud-based hospital tracking

What's the deal? Securitas Healthcare has acquired ZulaFly, a company specialising in cloud-based real-time location systems (RTLS) for hospitals and healthcare facilities. The deal brings ZulaFly's cloud-native platform into Securitas Healthcare's portfolio, expanding its ability to track assets, patients, and staff across hospital environments.

Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

Why now? Hospitals are under growing pressure to cut costs and improve operational efficiency. Cloud-based tracking systems offer a lighter-footprint alternative to legacy on-premise infrastructure, letting health systems deploy and scale faster without heavy upfront hardware investment.

Securitas Healthcare, a division of the global security group Securitas, has been building out its healthcare technology stack. Adding ZulaFly's cloud-native capabilities positions it to serve hospitals that want modern, software-driven location intelligence without managing servers on site.

What could go wrong? Integration is the perennial risk in acquisitions like this. Merging ZulaFly's cloud architecture with Securitas Healthcare's existing on-premise RTLS products could prove technically complex. Customers on either side may face uncertainty during the transition.

The healthcare RTLS market is also competitive, with players like Cognosos, CenTrak, and Versus Technology all vying for hospital contracts. Securitas will need to move quickly to retain ZulaFly's customers and demonstrate a unified product roadmap.

The signal: This deal reflects a broader shift in healthcare IT toward cloud-first infrastructure. Hospitals historically relied on on-premise systems for sensitive operational technology, but that preference is eroding as cloud platforms mature and cybersecurity standards improve.

It also underscores how large security and facilities-management companies are expanding into adjacent healthcare verticals through acquisition rather than building from scratch. Expect more consolidation in the healthcare RTLS space as the market matures and buyers seek end-to-end platforms.
