Bethel Automotive clears antitrust review for 51% stake in Yubei Steering
What's the deal? Bethel Automotive Safety Systems, a Chinese auto parts maker listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange, has received antitrust clearance from China's State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) to acquire a controlling 50.97% stake in Yubei Steering System (Xinxiang) Co. The shares are being purchased from multiple sellers, including Junhong Industrial, Ningbo Fengyuan Equity Investment Partnership, and two Hefei-based investment funds.
Why now? Bethel announced the share transfer agreement on May 6. The SAMR's decision not to pursue further review removes a key regulatory hurdle, clearing the path for the deal to close. Bethel has been expanding its automotive components portfolio — it recently disclosed that its electro-mechanical brake (EMB) products are set for mass production, with revenue expected from 2026.
The signal: The acquisition reflects ongoing consolidation in China's automotive components sector as suppliers race to build full-system capabilities. Steering systems are a critical piece of the puzzle as vehicles become more electrified and autonomous. By taking a controlling stake in Yubei Steering, Bethel positions itself to offer a broader suite of chassis and safety products — braking, steering, and beyond — to Chinese and global automakers.
