Atlas Copco acquires Brazilian compressed air distributor PowerTech
What's the deal? Atlas Copco Group, the Swedish industrial giant, has acquired PowerTech Ar Comprimido Ltda., a Brazilian compressed air distributor based in the Minas Gerais state. The deal, announced on May 6, brings 26 employees into Atlas Copco's fold.
PowerTech provides sales and service for stationary and portable compressors under the Chicago Pneumatic brand, serving customers in general industry and mining. The purchase price was not disclosed.
The acquired company will sit within the service division of Atlas Copco's Compressor Technique Business Area. "With this addition we will expand our service and sales footprint in the Minas Gerais region," said Philippe Ernens, the business area's president.
Why now? Minas Gerais is one of Brazil's most important mining states — its name literally translates to "general mines." For Atlas Copco, which already sells Chicago Pneumatic compressors in the region, bringing a distributor in-house gives it direct control over sales and after-market service in a key market.
Atlas Copco reported revenues of 168B SEK (roughly $15B) in 2025 and employs about 56,000 people globally. Small bolt-on acquisitions like this are a staple of the company's growth strategy.
The signal: This deal fits a well-worn playbook among large industrial groups: absorb your own distributors to tighten the value chain and capture service revenue. For Atlas Copco, it signals continued appetite for expanding its Latin American footprint, one small deal at a time.
