SoundCloud founder exits as Dance is acquired by Swapfiets

What's the deal? Dance, the Berlin-based e-bike subscription startup founded by SoundCloud co-founder Eric Quidenus-Wahlforss, has been acquired by Dutch bicycle subscription company SwapfietsDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →. The deal gives Swapfiets control of Dance's fleet of around 84,000 e-bikes. Quidenus-Wahlforss described himself as "deeply grateful" as he exits the company.

Why now? The micromobility subscription market in Europe has been consolidating as companies seek scale to achieve profitability. Swapfiets, which already operates a large bike and e-bike subscription service across multiple European cities, gains a significant fleet expansion through the acquisition.

With an 84,000-strong e-bike fleet now folded into its platform, Swapfiets is betting that density and operational leverage — not fresh venture funding — are the path to sustainable unit economics in urban bike subscriptions.
