Dunmow Group acquires Harlow Skip Hire to expand across Essex

What's the deal? Dunmow Group, which bills itself as Essex's leading waste management company, has acquired Harlow Skip Hire. The deal expands Dunmow's skip hire and waste management coverage to customers across Harlow, Epping, Bishops Stortford, and Stansted.

Sam Malins, group chief executive officer of Dunmow Group, said: "This acquisition allows us to meet the growing demands of our customers further, expanding our skip hire coverage while maintaining the high levels of service we are known for."

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Why now? Dunmow Group has been on a growth tear. In September 2025, it unveiled a multi-million pound recycling facility in Chelmsford, and it has made several senior hires in recent months. The Harlow acquisition fits a pattern of regional consolidation in UK waste management, where larger operators are snapping up local players to build scale and route density.

What could go wrong? Integration is always the risk with local-service acquisitions. Harlow Skip Hire's existing customers are being told they can keep booking through existing channels, but any disruption to service during the transition could erode loyalty. Dunmow also needs to ensure its fleet and operations can absorb the added geography without stretching thin.

The signal: The UK waste management sector continues to consolidate. Smaller, single-area operators face rising regulatory and compliance costs — Dunmow itself recently hired a regulatory and compliance director — making them attractive acquisition targets for better-capitalised regional groups. Expect more deals like this as scale becomes essential to margin in a tightly regulated industry.
