Banca Ifis sells asset manager Arecneprix to Prelios for €30M
What's the deal? Italian bank Banca Ifis has agreed to sell its entire stake in asset manager Arecneprix to Prelios for €30M. Arecneprix, fully owned by illimity Bank (part of the Banca Ifis Group), manages €6.4B in assets and reported revenues of €29.5M in 2025.
The deal is expected to close by the end of June 2026. Alongside the sale, Arecneprix and illimity Bank have signed a multi-year servicing agreement to ensure uninterrupted management of Banca Ifis Group's portfolios after completion.
Why now? The divestiture is part of Banca Ifis's broader strategy to shed non-core assets and focus on its primary business lines. The transaction is expected to boost the bank's CET1 capital ratio by roughly 10 basis points — a meaningful nudge for regulatory purposes.
Raffaele Zingone, chief executive officer of illimity Bank and co-general manager of Banca Ifis, said the sale "allows us to strengthen the foundations for its full integration into the Banca Ifis Group" and "focus even more closely on our core business segments."
What could go wrong? The multi-year servicing agreement ties the two parties together post-sale, creating ongoing dependency. If the relationship sours or service quality dips during the transition, Banca Ifis's portfolio management could suffer.
The signal: The deal reflects a broader trend among European banks to streamline operations by offloading specialist asset management units. For Prelios, the acquisition bolsters its position in credit servicing and alternative asset management, adding Arecneprix's expertise in non-performing exposure portfolio management and real estate.
Riccardo Serrini, chief executive officer of Prelios, said the deal "integrates a platform with €6.4B in AUM and distinctive expertise in NPE portfolio management and real estate." As European banks continue to simplify their structures, specialist servicers like Prelios stand to be the biggest beneficiaries.
