Daifuku acquires 100% of Eisenmann to boost automotive paint systems

What's the deal? Japan's Daifuku Group is acquiring 100% of the shares of Germany's Eisenmann GmbH from its current owner, Dutch investment firm Nimbus Hands-on Investors. The deal gives Daifuku — which operates from production and sales bases in 24 countries — deeper capabilities in automotive and industrial painting, surface treatment, and final assembly systems.

Eisenmann specialises in automation technologies and proprietary painting and final assembly solutions, primarily for European automotive and industrial component manufacturers. Daifuku brings a broad global footprint, a wide product portfolio, and strong R&D.

The two companies described their businesses as "complementary," particularly in industrial painting and surface treatment. The combined entity aims to offer end-to-end coverage — from quotation and planning through commissioning and after-sales support — tailored to European standards.

Why now? Customer-specific requirements in European automotive manufacturing are becoming increasingly important, and Daifuku wants to meet that demand with localised expertise. Automotive production line systems are one of Daifuku's core businesses, and folding in Eisenmann's European presence fills a gap the Japanese group couldn't easily build on its own.

What could go wrong? Integrating a European specialist into a Japanese industrial conglomerate is never straightforward. Cultural differences, overlapping operations, and the need to retain Eisenmann's engineering talent all pose risks. The European automotive sector is also under pressure from slowing EV demand and shifting trade dynamics, which could dampen order volumes.
