Romania's IT Genetics makes first post-IPO acquisition with Scale Expert deal
What's the deal? Romanian tech group IT Genetics (BVB: ITG), which specialises in digital automation and operational efficiency, has fully acquired Scale Expert — a local weighing solutions provider serving the retail, logistics, and distribution sectors. The deal, announced on May 28, is IT Genetics' first acquisition since listing on the AeRO market of the Bucharest Stock Exchange.
Scale Expert has operated in Romania for more than 20 years and serves over 4,000 clients. In 2025, it generated revenues of approximately RON 8M (~€1.6M). It will continue to operate under its current management team.
Why now? IT Genetics listed on the Bucharest Stock Exchange recently and is using its public-market status to fuel inorganic growth. The acquisition is designed to accelerate the company's weighing solutions division and expand into international markets where the group already operates.
"Scale Expert brings solid expertise in a specialised segment, as well as a client portfolio that complements our commercial directions very well," said Liviu Sima, co-founder of IT Genetics.
What could go wrong? Integration risk is the obvious concern. Scale Expert is a niche, 20-year-old business with its own client relationships and culture. Merging it into a recently listed tech group — while simultaneously pushing into new international markets — adds complexity. And at RON 8M in annual revenue, the financial impact on IT Genetics' top line will be modest, meaning the strategic value needs to materialise quickly to justify the deal.
The signal: The deal reflects a broader trend of Eastern European tech companies using public listings to consolidate fragmented, specialised markets. Weighing and commercial automation may sound unglamorous, but it sits at the intersection of retail digitisation and logistics efficiency — two areas attracting steady investment across the region. IT Genetics is betting that bundling niche operational tech into a broader platform creates more value than the sum of its parts.
