M&A

GDCC acquires Kantar Germany's Telquest unit to expand telephonic fieldwork

What's the deal? Rotterdam-based data collection firm GDCC has acquired Telquest, a telephonic fieldwork company, from Kantar Germany. Announced on May 5, the deal gives GDCC an immediate presence in one of Europe's largest research markets. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Telquest specialises in computer-assisted telephone interviewing (CATI), with a focus on social, public sector, and complex B2B research projects across Germany. It will now operate under the GDCC umbrella.

Why now? Telephone-based research remains critical for reaching representative samples in social and public research, where inclusivity and methodological rigour matter most. As digital survey methods grow, telephonic fieldwork has carved out a defensible niche in hard-to-reach segments — exactly where Telquest has built its reputation.

"Telquest is a natural fit for GDCC," said Kees-Jan Mars, GDCC's global chief executive officer. "Its strong position in Germany, particularly in social and public research, significantly strengthens our European offering."

What could go wrong? Integration is never straightforward. Merging Telquest's local interviewer base and established processes into GDCC's international network carries execution risk. Existing Telquest clients will watch closely to see whether service quality holds up during the transition.

Germany's data protection rules are among the strictest in Europe, adding a compliance layer that GDCC will need to navigate carefully as it absorbs the operation.

The signal: GDCC's move to acquire Telquest underscores a quiet but steady consolidation wave in the fieldwork and data collection sector, where specialised operators with deep local expertise are being absorbed by firms chasing pan-European scale. With no Dealroom-tracked funding history for either party, this is a bootstrapped-meets-bootstrapped deal — a reminder that meaningful M&A activity in research services often flies well beneath the venture radar.
