Delta Mold acquires Tool Technology, plans to consolidate operations
What's the deal? Charlotte-based injection molder and mould maker Delta Mold LLC has acquired Tool Technology Corp., an injection molder based in Inman, South Carolina. Tool Technology had been owned by investment firm Orchard Creek Capital since 2020. MBS Advisors represented the seller in the transaction. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Delta Mold plans to close Tool Technology's plant within 90 days and move production to its facility in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Why now? Orchard Creek has been steadily divesting its plastics portfolio, having previously sold injection molder American Plastic Toys and thermoformer Advantage Plastics. Terry Minnick of MBS Advisors said selling to Delta was "a good opportunity to sell to a similar business."
Founded in 1992, Tool Technology serves customers in heavy industry, automotive, electrical connectors, recreational vehicles, and robotics — primarily in the southeastern US. Delta Mold, founded in 1978, operates two facilities totalling 70,000 square feet and serves OEMs and moulders across the Southeast in markets including appliances, agriculture, consumer electronics, and food storage.
What could go wrong? Consolidating two facilities into one always carries execution risk. Integrating Tool Technology's production lines, workforce, and customer relationships into Delta's Charlotte operations within a 90-day window is an aggressive timeline that leaves little room for disruption.
The signal: This deal reflects a broader consolidation trend in US plastics manufacturing, where regional players are snapping up competitors to gain scale, broaden their customer base, and reduce overhead. For private equity firms like Orchard Creek, the exit also signals a maturing cycle of buy-and-sell activity in the sector.
