Complii acquires The Escalator Company to expand building compliance services

What's the deal? CompliiDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a UK building safety and regulatory compliance provider, has acquired The Escalator Company, a Rochester, Kent-based specialist in escalator and travelator servicing, maintenance, refurbishment, and installation. The deal expands Complii's dedicated Lifts and Escalators division.

Founded in 2002 as a family business, The Escalator Company brings over two decades of experience working across all major manufacturers' equipment. It has built a reputation for prioritising refurbishment and upgrades over full replacement — an approach Complii says aligns with its focus on cost-effective compliance outcomes.

With the acquisition, Complii says it is now "uniquely positioned" to offer end-to-end lifts and escalators compliance, covering planned preventative maintenance, reactive repairs, full refurbishment, new installation, and spare parts supply.

Why now? Complii has been building out its Lifts and Escalators division as part of a broader strategy to become a comprehensive building compliance partner. The company already covers water, air, fire, and electrical compliance — adding escalator expertise fills a gap in its service portfolio.

The signal: Complii's acquisition spree underscores a broader roll-up trend in UK building compliance, where platform businesses are snapping up niche specialists to assemble full-service offerings under one roof. With regulatory obligations around building safety only intensifying post-Grenfell, integrated compliance providers that can cover water, air, fire, electrical, and now vertical transportation stand to capture a growing share of facilities management budgets.
