Rep Data acquires OWL Solutions to bolster survey quality controls

What's the deal? Rep Data, a New Orleans-based data quality firm for the market research industry, has acquired OWL Solutions, a survey programming company specialising in complex survey builds and fieldwork readiness — particularly in healthcare. The deal expands Rep Data's pre-fieldwork capabilities, adding expertise in skip logic, quota management, device compatibility, and data structure.

"A well-programmed survey leads to better research outcomes," said Patrick Stokes, chief executive officer and founder of Rep Data. "OWL Programming brings deep operational survey programming expertise to Rep Data."

Why now? Research teams face mounting pressure to move faster without sacrificing execution quality. Stokes said the acquisition reflects growing demand for more connected, accountable research operations — especially as workflows get split across separate platforms, programming teams, sample providers, and analytics systems.

"Maintaining strong operational controls becomes more difficult when work is split across separate platforms, programming teams, sample providers, fraud prevention tools, fieldwork partners and analytics systems," Stokes said.

What could go wrong? Integration is the perennial risk with roll-up strategies. Rep Data's ecosystem now includes Research Defender, ReDem, Research Desk, SightX, and OWL Programming — a growing stack that needs to function as a coherent whole. If the pieces don't mesh smoothly, the promised efficiency gains could become operational headaches for the roughly 500 clients Rep Data serves.

The signal: Rep Data, classified as a "breakout" stage company on Dealroom, is methodically assembling a full-stack research infrastructure — from fraud prevention (Research Defender) to analytics (SightX) and now survey programming — under one roof. The play mirrors a wider consolidation pattern in B2B research services, where private equity-backed platforms roll up fragmented, specialist vendors to offer bundled workflows that lock in enterprise clients navigating increasingly complex data-quality demands.
