Aventum makes first MGA acquisition with Dutch marine specialist Post & Co
What's the deal? Aventum has acquired Rotterdam-headquartered Post & Co, a specialist marine and logistics managing general agent (MGA), in what the group calls its first ever MGA purchase. The deal adds to Aventum's global MGA Rokstone and opens a new growth platform across continental Europe.
Post & Co, family-owned since its founding in 1918, operates from offices in Rotterdam, Groningen, Antwerp, and Frankfurt. Its marine-focused insurance lines include P&I, charterers and shipowners' liability, war risk, cargo, and logistics-related covers.
Why now? Aventum described the acquisition as a "defining milestone" for the group, signalling a deliberate push into continental European markets. Buying a century-old specialist with an established footprint across the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany gives the company an immediate presence rather than a slow organic build.
What could go wrong? Integrating a family-owned business that has operated independently for over a century is never straightforward. Cultural and operational differences between the acquiring group and a multi-generational firm could create friction, particularly across multiple jurisdictions with distinct regulatory regimes.
The signal: The deal reflects a broader trend of UK-based insurance groups using MGA acquisitions to expand into continental Europe, where specialist underwriting capacity remains fragmented. Marine and logistics insurance is a niche but growing segment as global supply chains become more complex — and more exposed to geopolitical risk. Aventum's move suggests it sees specialist MGAs as the most efficient vehicle for cross-border growth.
