LegalPlace raises €70M and acquires rival Legalstart to dominate French company creation

What's the deal? LegalPlace, the French platform for company creation and management, has raised €70M from Move Capital, XAnge, and Eurazeo. The funds will finance its acquisition of historic competitor Legalstart, creating a combined entity that handles nearly 20% of all company formations in France.

Founded in 2016 by Racem Flazi, Mehdi Ouchallal, and Samuel Goldstein, LegalPlace has grown into a reference platform for entrepreneurs in France. Legalstart, founded in 2013 and backed by ISAI, brought 150 employees and deep brand recognition in online legal support.

The merged group now employs 500 people and positions itself as a "super-app" for entrepreneurs — covering company creation, domiciliation, professional accounts, accounting, and insurance in one place.

Why now? LegalPlace has been growing at 60% annually over three years and has built a base of 50,000 subscribers. It is targeting revenues above €100M as early as 2026.

The company is betting heavily on agentic AI to automate accounting and corporate formalities. Merging with Legalstart gives it the data volume and client interactions needed to train and scale those AI agents — a critical mass neither company could reach alone.

"When we launched LegalPlace, starting a business was too complex and opaque," said co-founder Racem Flazi. "Our coming together with Legalstart is not just a growth move. It is the culmination of a vision: letting everyone focus on what matters — growing their business."

What could go wrong? Integrating two competing platforms with distinct brands, cultures, and tech stacks is never simple. LegalPlace says both entities will retain their identities and coexist, but maintaining two brands while building a unified AI layer adds complexity.

The €100M revenue target for 2026 is ambitious. And European expansion — mentioned as a goal — will mean navigating vastly different legal frameworks across jurisdictions.

The signal: The acquisition of breakout-stage Legalstart by late growth-stage LegalPlace mirrors a consolidation wave playing out across European vertical SaaS, where market leaders are absorbing well-established competitors to build the data moats needed for AI-driven product expansion. Move Capital's debut fund backing a €70M round for a legaltech roll-up also signals growing investor conviction that France's entrepreneurial infrastructure — not just its startups — is a fundable category in its own right.
