Voltfang secures €13M debt facility from Raiffeisen Bank International

Why now? Demand for commercial and industrial battery storage is surging across Europe as the continent pushes to integrate more renewables into its grid. Grid-balancing batteries help stabilise power networks, reduce bottlenecks, and smooth out the intermittency of wind and solar energy.
Voltfang plans to deploy the funds specifically for projects in the commercial, industrial, and large-scale storage segments — all areas seeing strong growth.
What could go wrong? Debt financing adds financial obligations that equity does not. If project timelines slip or demand softens, Voltfang will still need to service its credit facilities. The European energy storage market is also becoming increasingly competitive, with well-funded rivals and Chinese manufacturers pushing prices down.
The signal: Voltfang's origins lie in repurposing second-life electric vehicle batteries for stationary energy storage — a circular model that appears to be winning over traditional finance. RBI's structured debt package, issued through its dedicated scale-up banking unit focused on the DACH region, suggests that corporate lenders increasingly view battery storage not as speculative cleantech but as infrastructure worth underwriting at scale.
