IMU Biosciences extends Series A to $53M to decode the immune system
What's the deal? IMU Biosciences, a UK biotech company mapping the immune system at unprecedented scale, has closed an oversubscribed financing round that brings its Series A to over $53M (£40M). IMU has built what it calls the world's largest immune dataset, covering more than 25,000 individuals. By combining multi-omic analysis with proprietary machine learning, it can extract over 100 million immune data points from a simple blood sample.
The company aims to establish a universal standard for immune profiling — one that could discover new immune mechanisms, monitor disease progression, and predict treatment efficacy for individual patients.
Why now? The proceeds will fund IMU's operational expansion, clinical platform development, and several active clinical programmes. These include its Stem Cell Transplant and Solid Organ Transplant programmes, plus MANIFEST, a UK research consortium studying patient response to cancer immunotherapies.
"The immune system sits at the heart of almost every disease; a company that can interrogate it at this resolution has the potential to redefine how we match the right treatment to the right patient at the right time," said Dr Inga Deakin, partner at Molten Ventures, which is IMU's largest shareholder.
What could go wrong? Turning vast immune datasets into clinically validated, revenue-generating tools is notoriously difficult. Regulatory hurdles for diagnostic platforms are steep, and the path from research insights to bedside adoption can take years. IMU will also need to prove its models generalise beyond its current patient cohorts.
