Metamars raises from TAKARA Group and Uniontech to scale TikTok Shop live commerce in Japan
What's the deal? MetamarsDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, the Tokyo-based company behind TikTok Shop official partner brand metamoon, has raised a new funding round from TAKARA Group and Uniontech (Union Technology). The exact amount and equity stakes were not disclosed.
Metamars offers a one-stop model covering creator management, live-stream support, and e-commerce operations on TikTok Shop. It has been an official partner since TikTok Shop first entered Japan.
The company's monthly gross merchandise value (GMV) crossed ¥400M in April 2026 and surpassed ¥500M in May — a sign of rapid momentum. Funds will go toward expanding its creator network, building AI-powered analytics tools, forging new partnerships, and stretching onto additional live-commerce platforms beyond TikTok Shop.
Why now? Japan's live-commerce market is entering a fast-growth phase, trailing China and Southeast Asia but accelerating. Metamars spent 2025 proving out its business model and now wants to lock in a leadership position before competitors catch up.
One catalyst for the deal was MetaSolar, an AI-powered e-commerce operating system that Metamars built in-house. It integrates product management, TikTok Open API connections, and automated post-stream review reports. Uniontech, a Tokyo-based cross-border tech and investment firm specialising in China-Japan digital business, cited MetaSolar's maturity as a key reason for backing the company. The two firms plan to co-develop next-generation live-commerce tools by combining Uniontech's AI and data capabilities with Metamars' operational platform.
What could go wrong? Metamars' fortunes are tightly coupled to TikTok Shop. Any regulatory headwinds affecting TikTok in Japan — or a shift in platform policies — could disrupt its core business. The company acknowledges this concentration risk and says it plans to diversify across multiple live-commerce platforms, but that expansion is still ahead.
With the funding amount undisclosed, it is also hard to gauge how much runway Metamars has secured relative to its ambitions.
The signal: Live commerce has long been massive in China yet struggled to gain traction in Western and East Asian markets outside the mainland. Metamars' rapid GMV growth — jumping from ¥400M to ¥500M in a single month — suggests Japan may be the next market to tip. The involvement of a cross-border investor like Uniontech underlines a broader trend of Chinese live-commerce expertise flowing outward to seed new markets, and if the model scales in Japan it could become a template for TikTok Shop partner ecosystems elsewhere.
