Neobiomics receives investment from HealthCap
What's the deal? NeobiomicsDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a life science company developing clinically documented nutritional products for preterm infants, has secured an investment led by HealthCapDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, the Nordic life science venture firm. The deal brings Mårten Steen, managing partner at HealthCap, onto the Neobiomics board.
The funding will support commercial expansion, international growth, and further development of the company's neonatal and paediatric health portfolio. No financial terms were disclosed.
Neobiomics' lead product, ProPrems, is already used in neonatal intensive care units across Europe and the Middle East. In 2024, it expanded its portfolio with the launch of NeoMega36, a product aimed at strengthening its position in evidence-based neonatal nutrition.
Why now? The company appears to be at an inflection point. It has a proven commercial presence in multiple geographies and a growing product line — factors that make scaling the logical next step.
"HealthCap's investment is a strong validation of the clinical relevance and long-term potential of Neobiomics," said Stefan Johansson, co-founder and chairman. "With HealthCap onboard, we are well positioned to accelerate our international growth."
What could go wrong? Neonatal nutrition is a highly regulated space where product approvals and clinical evidence requirements vary widely by market. Expanding internationally means navigating different regulatory frameworks, which can slow growth and increase costs.
Competition from larger nutrition and pharmaceutical companies also poses a risk as the evidence-based neonatal nutrition market matures.
The signal: HealthCap, a dedicated life science investment fund, backing an early-growth-stage company like Neobiomics suggests conviction that evidence-based neonatal nutrition can scale beyond its current European and Middle Eastern footprint. With ProPrems already embedded in neonatal intensive care units and a second product launched in 2024, the company fits a pattern increasingly favoured by specialist life science investors: clinical rigour paired with proven commercial traction, rather than a pure preclinical bet.
