Wispr in talks to raise $260M at $2B valuation for voice AI

What's the deal? Wispr, the startup behind voice dictation tool Wispr Flow, is in discussions to raise approximately $260 million in a round that would more than double its valuation to $2 billion. Menlo Ventures is expected to lead.

Why now? Wispr Flow has gained traction with developers who use it to dictate prompts to AI agents — a workflow that barely existed a year ago. The company was valued at $700 million as recently as November 2025, when it closed a $25 million Series A extension.

The near-tripling in valuation reflects the fast-expanding market for AI-native input tools as more professionals adopt voice as a primary interface for interacting with AI systems.

What could go wrong? Voice dictation is a notoriously hard category. Previous attempts by major players have struggled to gain sustained adoption. Wispr also faces the risk of commoditisation — as frontier AI models improve their native speech capabilities, standalone voice-to-text tools could face pressure from platform-level features built into operating systems and AI assistants.

The signal: As AI agents become central to developer workflows, the input layer — how humans communicate with machines — is becoming a fundable category in its own right. A near-$2 billion valuation for a voice dictation startup would have been unthinkable two years ago.
