Day Zero launches to back EMEA founders at pre-seed from within OPUS ecosystem
What's the deal? Day ZeroDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a new venture capital platform targeting pre-seed technology companies in EMEA, has launched in strategic partnership with OPUS, the global founder platform.
The platform was co-founded by Sam Tidswell-NorrishDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → (founder and chair of OPUS), Jeff LynnDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → (co-founder and former chief executive officer of Seedrs), and Olamide OgunrinolaDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → (formerly of Octopus Ventures), who leads day-to-day investment activity. It will operate as an investor syndicate — open to pre-committed investors as well as OPUS members on a deal-by-deal basis.
Why now? Early-stage investing is getting more competitive, and AI is compressing the timeline from idea to traction. Day Zero is a bet that the most consequential investment decisions will happen earlier than ever — and that community-powered sourcing gives it an edge in finding them first.
OPUS brings a ready-made distribution network: 50,000+ founders, investors, and operators, 200+ global events annually, and alumni that have raised from a16z, Sequoia, and Y Combinator.
What could go wrong? No fund size has been disclosed, leaving the platform's firepower unclear. Syndicates also face structural limits — deal-by-deal participation can be slower and less reliable than committed capital, which may put Day Zero at a disadvantage when competing for the best rounds.
The platform's generalist mandate — spanning creative industries, fintech, and health tech — is broad for an early-stage vehicle with an unproven track record.
The signal: Day Zero reflects a wider trend of community platforms formalising into investment vehicles. Founder networks increasingly double as deal flow engines, and the lines between media, community, and venture capital are blurring fast.
