Ex-Datadog president raises $49M seed to automate enterprise IT with AI

What's the deal? Standard Template Labs, an AI startup founded by former Datadog president Amit AgarwalDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, has raised $49 million in seed funding at a roughly $300 million valuation.

The company is building software to automate IT management for large enterprises — tasks like ticket resolution and application authorisation that today eat up significant time and headcount.

Why now? Enterprise IT services remain largely manual and labour-intensive, but AI is making serious automation of those workflows increasingly viable. Agarwal is deliberately targeting large companies with in-house IT teams rather than small businesses — the segment with the most complexity, the deepest inefficiencies, and the greatest willingness to pay for solutions that actually work at scale.

The round was co-led by Iconiq and CRV, both early Datadog backers. Agarwal himself briefly served as a full-time general partner at Iconiq before launching STLabs, giving the raise an unusually close-knit dynamic between founder and investors — the kind of trust that tends to unlock large cheques at the earliest stages.

The signal: A $49 million seed is a striking number — most seed rounds are a fraction of that size. It reflects the intensity of investor appetite for AI startups tackling services industries, where the potential for automation is vast but execution is hard. STLabs is part of a broader wave of companies going after enterprise workflows that have long relied on costly, slow human processes, and where even partial automation could translate into hundreds of millions in savings for customers.

The Datadog pedigree adds a layer of credibility that's hard to manufacture. Agarwal helped scale one of enterprise software's defining success stories of the past decade, and his backers are clearly betting that the same instincts — for product, for enterprise sales, for building at scale — will translate into a new category. If STLabs can land even a handful of large enterprise contracts and demonstrate measurable ROI, it will be well-positioned to raise a much larger follow-on at a significantly higher valuation.
