Fundraise

GrubMarket raises $50M Series H at $4.5B valuation for AI food supply chain tech

What's the deal? GrubMarket has raised around $50 million in Series H financing at a pre-money valuation of $4.5 billion, marking a significant up round for the AI-powered food supply chain technology company. The round was led by Future Food Fund, Portfolia Funds, Liberty Street Funds, RD Heritage Group, Flume Ventures, MY Securities, and other unnamed participants.

The San Francisco-based company has experienced rapid acceleration over the past 12 months, completing several major acquisitions and launching specialised AI agents for the food distribution industry. CEO Mike Xu emphasised that the funding was opportunistic rather than necessary, as GrubMarket operates a self-sustaining business model.

Why now? The funding follows a string of major milestones achieved throughout 2025. In June, GrubMarket completed its largest acquisition to date with Coast Citrus, a major tropical produce provider. The company also acquired Delta Fresh Produce in Arizona and Procurant, a leading SaaS e-commerce platform that facilitates $5.5 billion in gross merchandise volume annually for over 850 customers across 14 countries.

On the technology front, GrubMarket launched the first-ever Inventory Management AI Agent for food supply chains in July 2025, followed by a Reporting AI Agent in September 2025. These AI tools address critical pain points in food distribution, including the fact that approximately 30% of food produced for human consumption is lost or wasted annually along the supply chain.

The company's momentum has earned recognition from CNBC, which named GrubMarket to its prestigious Disruptor 50 list for three consecutive years (2023, 2024, and 2025).

What could go wrong? Food supply chain management presents unique challenges that distinguish it from other sectors. The industry has historically been slower to adopt AI technologies compared to other sectors, and implementation requires navigating variable product characteristics, regulatory compliance requirements, and real-time decision-making for perishable products.

Additionally, as GrubMarket expands globally and pursues an aggressive acquisition strategy, integration complexities and maintaining consistent service quality across diverse markets could pose risks.

The signal: GrubMarket's funding round reflects broader trends in AI adoption across traditional industries, particularly those grappling with sustainability mandates and operational inefficiencies. Almost 40% of food and beverage producers identify sustainability as their primary concern, driven by both cost savings opportunities and consumer expectations.

The company's agentic architecture approach — where AI tools not only deliver data but also execute multi-step workflows — signals a shift beyond traditional automation towards autonomous decision-making systems. This positions GrubMarket as the only enterprise AI solutions provider specifically for the American food supply chain.

With operations across all 50 US states and a presence in nine countries including Argentina, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Egypt, India, Mexico, South Africa, and Spain, GrubMarket plans to extend its e-commerce reach and increase investment in people, technology, and acquisitions.
