The founders argue that much of today’s AI development is focused on automation that could displace human workers. Humans& positions itself differently, saying it wants to build systems that support collaboration between people rather than operate independently. The company is working on software that it describes as an AI-enabled communication tool, closer to a messaging platform than a traditional chatbot, designed to ask clarifying questions, retain context, and assist groups over time.

To support this approach, Humans& plans to apply existing AI techniques in new ways, particularly in areas such as long-horizon and multi-agent reinforcement learning, memory, and user modeling. The company currently employs about 20 people, with backgrounds spanning OpenAI, Meta, AI2, MIT, and Stanford. While the technical direction is still early and the product has not been released, the size of the seed round highlights how investor interest in large, vision-driven AI bets remains strong, even amid broader discussions about valuation risk in the sector.
