Founded in 2020 and based at the Oxford Science ParkDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, Dark Blue focuses on developing precision oncology medicines using targeted protein degradation, an approach aimed at eliminating disease-driving proteins.

Amgen, a global biopharmaceutical firm headquartered in California, said the deal aligns with its strategy of integrating novel therapeutic approaches into its cancer research and development efforts.

Targeted protein degraders have gained industry attention for their potential to address proteins that have been difficult to modulate with traditional small molecules.

The deal gives Amgen direct access to a protein degradation programme focused on blood cancers, an area where competition for differentiated mechanisms has intensified.

Dark Blue’s lead assets remain at an early stage, but the acquisition allows Amgen to internalise both the science and the research team behind them, rather than relying on external partnerships as the field matures.

The milestone-based structure of the transaction also reflects a measured approach to risk in a modality that remains largely unproven in the clinic.
