Moonshot AIDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a Beijing-based artificial intelligence company, has raised a $500 million Series C funding round at a $4.3 billion valuation, confirming ealier reports by The Wall Street Journal.

The financing was led by IDG Capital and described as oversubscribed, with participation from major Chinese technology groups including Alibaba and Tencent. Moonshot has not disclosed its final valuation, but the funding places it among the most highly valued AI startups in China.

Founded in 2023, Moonshot develops large language models designed to read, write and reason over long pieces of text. In practice, this means its systems are built to handle tasks such as summarising lengthy documents, assisting with coding, analysing complex information and sustaining extended conversations without losing context. The company’s models are marketed under the KimiDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → brand and have gained attention both in China and internationally.

Moonshot relies heavily on Nvidia’s AI chips, which remain the industry standard for training and running large language models. Continued access to such hardware is seen as a competitive advantage for Chinese AI firms at a time when US export controls have tightened restrictions on advanced semiconductors.

Moonshot raised more than $1.3 billion in 2024, which helped accelerate model development and computing infrastructure. It has since released several models publicly, including open-source versions aimed at developers, and continues to work on more advanced iterations.

The closing of the Series C round comes as competition among Chinese AI companies intensifies and investor interest concentrates around a smaller number of well-funded players. For Moonshot, the new capital is expected to support further model development and commercial expansion as it seeks to establish itself as a leading domestic alternative to Western AI systems.
