Insilico Medicine has begun trading in Hong Kong after raising US$293 million in an initial public offering, in one of the city’s more notable biotech listings of the year.
The shares were priced at HK$24.05, valuing the AI-driven drug developer at about US$1.84 billion, and rose strongly in grey-market trading ahead of the debut.
Founded in 2014 by Alex ZharovonkovDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, Insilico uses artificial intelligence to accelerate drug discovery, aiming to cut the time and cost of developing new medicines. The company operates across the United States, China, Canada and the Middle East, and is among an early group of biotech firms seeking to apply generative AI at scale to pharmaceutical research.
Its most advanced drug candidate, targeting an incurable lung disease, has shown promise in mid-stage clinical trials. Insilico’s broader pipeline remains largely in early development, supported by proprietary AI platforms for target identification and molecule design.
Alongside drug development, Insilico generates revenue by licensing its discovery software and partnering with pharmaceutical companies, reporting more than US$85.8 million in revenue in 2024.
Proceeds from the Hong Kong IPO will be used to fund clinical research, expand the company’s pipeline and further develop its AI models.
