Changan's Deepal Completes $874M Series C as China’s EV Competition Intensifies
Deepal, Chinese automaker Changan AutomobileDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →'s EV brand, has raised about $874 million (¥6.12 billion) in a Series C funding round, one of the larger late-stage EV financings in China this year. The round reinforces Changan’s commitment to building a standalone electric brand as competition intensifies across the domestic EV market.
The financing was led by Changan Automobile, which retains majority control of Deepal, alongside a group of institutional and strategic investors. The capital will be used to support product development, expand manufacturing capacity and advance the company’s next phase of growth, including the launch of second-generation vehicle platforms planned for 2026.
Deepal was established as part of Changan’s broader transition toward new energy vehicles, with a mandate to operate as a more agile, technology-driven brand within the group.
While benefiting from Changan’s manufacturing scale, supply chain and distribution network, Deepal has been positioned with its own product identity, design language and technology roadmap, targeting the mass-market segment rather than the premium niche occupied by some domestic EV startups.
The company’s first generation of vehicles focuses on mainstream electric and extended-range models, combining competitive pricing with digital features such as connected services and software updates.
Deepal has sought to differentiate itself through platform flexibility and faster development cycles, leveraging both in-house capabilities and external technology partnerships.
The Series C round comes amid a broader reshaping of China’s EV landscape, where traditional automakers and state-backed groups are playing a larger role alongside independent startups. As subsidies fade and price competition intensifies, access to capital, production scale and parent-company backing have become increasingly important for long-term viability.
With fresh funding and continued support from Changan, Deepal is positioning itself as a central pillar of the group’s EV strategy, aiming to scale volumes and refresh its product lineup as China’s electric vehicle market enters a more mature and competitive phase.
