Y Combinator–backed Kontigo raises $20M seed following rapid growth in its first year
Kontigo has raised a $20 million seed round less than a year after launching, following early traction in what it describes as a stablecoin-based neobank model. According to the company, the platform has reached 1 million users, processes roughly $1 billion in payment volume, and generates about $30 million in annualized revenue.
The funding comes as Kontigo positions itself around blockchain-native financial infrastructure rather than traditional banking rails. The company’s product strategy centers on offering everyday financial services — including dollar-denominated stablecoins, payments, cards, credit, and cross-border accounts — built directly on blockchain systems instead of licensed bank networks.
A key focus for Kontigo is cross-border money movement, particularly for users and businesses operating across multiple regions. The company says more than 1,000 businesses use the platform to move funds between the U.S., Latin America, Europe, Asia, and Africa, reflecting demand for faster settlement and reduced friction in international payments.
Kontigo’s approach contrasts with global fintechs such as Revolut, which typically expand market by market and depend on local banking licenses. By relying on blockchain infrastructure that operates continuously across borders, Kontigo is betting it can scale internationally with fewer regulatory and operational constraints, while keeping costs lower.
With the new capital, Kontigo plans to continue developing its stablecoin-based products and expanding its reach, as investors increasingly back financial platforms built around blockchain rails rather than traditional banking systems.
